Mottarone cable car, firefighter: “Gruesome scene”

“A particularly gruesome scene: some people were thrown out, others were inside the cable car. These are scenes that no one will want to see and will remain etched in the memory of those who have seen them forever”. This is how Roberto Marchino commander of the Verbania fire brigade explains what he saw at the scene of the accident on the Mottarone. “There is a sense of defeat: a natural disaster is not predictable, but here there is something that didn’t work,” he explains. “It is necessary to understand the construction scheme of the system and which safety devices and why they did not work. At the moment we have not made this type of assessment which I imagine will be the subject of an appraisal by the prosecutor”.
