Goodbye to the old mailbox, the smart one arrives

Goodbye old mailboxes, the smart ones arrive. The first were installed in Milan, in Via Cordusio, Piazza Duomo and Via Orefici. The new digital mailboxes replace the traditional ones that have been furnishing and characterizing our cities since 1961, while maintaining the typical fiery red color unchanged and thus managing to combine digital and technological innovation with tradition. Equipped with an e-ink screen, the new smart cassettes are able to provide useful information, such as the main environmental data, such as temperature, humidity, fine dust and allow Poste Italiane to convey information to citizens on the Municipality of reference. The new digital cassettes are also equipped with sensors that detect the presence of correspondence inside and allow Poste to optimize the collection phase, reducing the environmental impact. In the coming weeks, new digital cassettes will also be installed in Piazza Duca D ‘Aosta, 1, Via Alberico Albricci, 8, Via Alfredo Cappellini, 19, Via dell’Orso 9, Foro Bonaparte, 71, Via Tonale, 10, Piazza Argentina, 4 to reach a total of 46 boxes in this first phase in the city of Milan. New installations will also affect the Municipalities of Turin, Rome, Naples for a total, in this first experimental phase, of 100 new mailboxes. In line with its social mission, Poste Italiane continues in parallel with the replacement and maintenance of mailboxes , to redevelop the urban space and the installation of latest generation boxes even in small municipalities. Without a screen, the boxes in municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants have the same functionality as the ‘smart’ boxes. The data collected can be consulted at https://www.posteitaliane.it/piccolicomuni by entering the name of the municipality. In Italy there are about 40,000 mailboxes, of which about 800 are located in the city of Milan. The initiative is consistent with the ESG principles on the environment, social and corporate governance, respected by socially responsible companies, which contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
