Rome, violent racially motivated assault: 4 arrests

A violent assault on a black young man by a group of young people, which took place on July 26 in the La Rustica area, in Rome, led to the arrest of four young people for crimes, committed in competition, of injuries with the aggravating circumstance of racial discrimination, private violence, carrying improper weapons, interruption of public service. The State Police conducted the investigations, coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office. The attack would have taken place after some robberies in the neighborhood that would have been carried out by a black man: a fact that would have provoked in the group of young people a desire for revenge with the clear objective of identifying and “punishing” those responsible. The black boy was approached by the “pack”, about a dozen people, who, after asking him for information, repeatedly hit him with kicks, punches and blows. The attacked man managed to escape but the young men chased him by car, hitting him and making him fall to the ground, hitting him again several times.The attacked young man managed to get up and get on a bus but after a few hundred meters the driver had to stop the vehicle because the cars of the pursuers blocked his way: threatening the driver, then, they let the doors open and one of the attackers, boarded, hit the stranger with several stabs, before getting off again and flee with his accomplices, leaving the young man seriously injured on the ground. For him a prognosis of 20 days. The agents of the State Police managed to identify the perpetrators of the attack: they are some young people from the neighborhood already known to the police: between 29 and 34 years old, all Romans. The investigating judge ordered house arrest for them, carried out this morning by the policemen. Investigators are still carrying out investigations to identify the other participants in the “expedition” and to ascertain whether similar episodes occurred in the same period.
