Violence against women, Gratteri: “Never go to the last date”

Statistically, there are now more deaths at home than murder with firearms. I want to give advice to women: go away at the first act of violence, don’t go to the last date. When the ex-husband, partner or boyfriend begs you, don’t go because it is a trap: he will kill you. There is nothing to clarify, it is clarified before a judge, lawyers, social workers, never alone. When a husband or wife beats the other, it is time to leave ”. With respect to the Zappalà affair, Gratteri clarifies: “The trial system does not allow the stalker to be arrested. If I don’t find him in the house with weapons in hand, I can’t arrest him. And anyway, if he has decided that he must kill his ex-wife, partner or girlfriend, house arrest will certainly not stop him. The system should allow me to fear them in prison, but it doesn’t. It is useless to blame the magistrate and the prosecutor: there were no conditions for house arrest. This is how things are: either we give more possibilities to arrest for this type of crime or this is the system ”. Among the protagonists of the book by Gratteri and Nicaso there is also Lea Garofalo, witness of justice.
