“The culture of accessibility and inclusiveness concerns everyone, frail elderly, chronically ill but even more so those with a motor, sensory or mental disability. Enjoying free time is a universal right, even for those with disabilities. ‘social inclusion of people with disabilities and chronic and rare diseases also includes guaranteeing a satisfactory quality of life in all fields, including leisure, tourism, sport, which are essential in a person’s life. Unfortunately, these aspects are often underestimated. “Thus Antonella Celano, president of the National Association of People with Rheumatological and Rare Diseases (Apmarr), speaking at the virtual presentation of the project ‘SiPuò – Accessibility practices’, an initiative promoted by Apmarr Aps, Ast Aps and Uildm Mazara del Vallo Odv, and co-financed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, which aims to spread the culture of inclusiveness in Italy. “With this project born in May 2021 – Celano recalls – we wanted to train volunteers in the tourism, free time and social fields who had mastered the themes of inclusiveness and hospitality. Not only that, the people who joined the initiative were able to travel, experience cultural experiences, socialize. Our members took advantage of guided tours, were welcomed in bathing establishments with umbrellas and services placed evenly among all the others “. But “let’s be clear – Celano warns – accessibility must not only be structural but also include other aspects, first of all the attention to people with disabilities who every day encounter countless difficulties and obstacles to overcome, let alone on holiday by the sea or in the mountains “.
