Italian civilian victims of war join a demonstration for peace on November 5th

In this historical moment characterized by a renewed concern for the escalation of war related to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the National Association of Civilian Victims of War considers it right to reaffirm its ten-year commitment to peace, based on mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and dialogue between peoples. The Association, born in 1943 and therefore in the middle of the Second World War, brings together the disabled civilians of war, their families and the relatives of civilians who have fallen due to war, the number of which is still relevant today for the tender age in which many remained affected and for the frequent accidents caused by unexploded military devices after the end of the conflict. Alongside the institutional tasks of representation and protection, the Association has always had among its aims the promotion of the culture of peace, being well aware – for its history – that in the context of modern wars only solid and lasting can guarantee civilian populations a dignified life and respect for their fundamental rights. From the point of view of civilians, ordinary people, innocent victims, there are no “targeted bombings” or “intelligent weapons” and this is demonstrated by the blindness, disability, mutilation and loss of relatives, which the Italian civilian victims of war they suffered during the Second World War, due to the Nazi-fascist massacres and the bombings of the allies. For this reason, for years the Association has been promoting with ever more force and conviction the appeal for the complete cessation of conflicts: an indispensable condition to allow all individuals to live their lives in peace, without pain, without violence, without terror. . Peace is not a political option, expression of a partisan stance, but one of the indispensable preconditions for the respect of human rights and for sustainable development, as indicated in the UN statute, in the founding treaty of the European Union. and in our Constitution.Consistent with this commitment to support civilian victims of war from all over the world, without ideological distinctions, the National Association of Civilian Victims of War has decided to join the demonstration on November 5th against the war, in Rome – organized by the civil society coalition “Europe For Peace” – to call for an immediate ‘ceasefire’ and to promote an international negotiation and conference to stop the conflict in Ukraine. Those who have lost their personal integrity, in body and soul, cannot in fact tolerate that other people in the world suffer the same dramatic and irremediable fate and this can only be achieved with the end of armed clashes in all parts of the world. This solidarity commitment of the Association is not limited to the victims of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but extends to all those populations who are suffering from the violence of the war in other territories now guilty forgotten by the mass media, such as Syria, the Afghanistan, Yemen, Nigeria and many others. Anyone who has been a victim of war knows that war is the problem and only peace is the solution.
