Trentino, the F43 bear died during the capture

A bear died in Trentino during the capture operations in Val di Concei, a side of the Val di Ledro, carried out by the Autonomous Province of Trento during an intervention for the replacement of the radio collar that it wore since July 2021. The International Organization for the Protection of Animals (Oipa), dismayed, announces an immediate request for access to the documents to know in detail what has been done and happened. “When we have the documentation in hand, including the video materials, we will evaluate the opportunity to have it analyzed by one of our consultants. We also reserve the right to intervene in the appropriate centers for the protection of bears, animals protected at community level, if responsibilities emerge” , announces Massimo Comparotto, president of Oipa. From the first investigations of the veterinary team it emerged that the F43 bear died as a result of the position assumed in the tube trap when the anesthetic took effect. The association recalls that it is not the first time that a bear has been killed in Trentino during the capture operations. The most famous victim is Daniza, who left her cubs orphaned in 2014. “We wonder, once again, how it is possible to manage the presence of bears in this way, how it is possible to continue killing wild animals in operations that require competence and accuracy. “, declares the delegate of the Oipa of Trento, Ornella Dorigatti. “The Autonomous Province of Trento is still far from implementing a serious preventive action and a serious planning of actions aimed at a peaceful coexistence with wildlife. The procedure for capturing bears endangers their lives and we ask ourselves why persist in persecuting these wonderful animals “.
