The Roman ship of the Egadi battle was recovered from the depths of Levanzo

As part of the active collaboration between the Nucleo Carabinieri for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Palermo, the Superintendency of the Sea of ​​the Sicilian Region and the organization “Rpm Nautical Foundation”, a bronze rostrum of a Roman ship, period III sec. AD, inherent in the battle of the Egadi. The operations took place through the decisive intervention of the oceanographic vessel “Hercules”, the Carabinieri Underwater Unit of Messina, the Carabinieri of Trapani, through the use of the CC 811 “Pignatelli” patrol boat and the pneumatic boat CC405 of the naval detachment of Favignana. At the conclusion of the operations, the important find was delivered to the officials of the Superintendence of the Sea. The location of the discovery, which is considered to be of considerable importance, is being examined by archaeologists for further scientific evaluations since, from the depths of the Egadi, another 23 beaks of the battle of the Egadi have been recovered. of the marine archaeological sites that the Carabinieri of the TPC, in synergy with the Arma Commands of the territorial line and with the Superintendence of the Sea, systematically carry out in defense of the important Sicilian cultural heritage.
