Covid Italy, hospitalizations increase. Sicily and Sardinia towards the yellow zone

Patient admissions and intensive care in Italy are on the rise. Sardinia and Sicily are the regions closest to returning to the yellow zone, with more rigid anti-Covid rules and measures than the current ones. According to the bulletin of August 17, 3,472 people are hospitalized in ordinary wards (+138), while there are 423 patients in intensive care, 19 more than the previous day, with 49 daily admissions, the highest figure since last May 22. The bulletin reports 5,273 new cases detected on 238,073 daily tests, with a positive percentage of 2.2%. The victims since the beginning of the pandemic are 128,510, the total cases including deaths and healed come to 4,449,606. According to the data collected by Agenas as of August 16, the region in fact stands at 16% of the occupancy rate of the departments with an increase of 1%. The value of Calabria also rose to 14% (+ 1%), of Sardinia to 9% (+ 1%) and of Basilicata to 10% (+1%). Sardinia, on the other hand, exceeds the maximum occupancy threshold of beds in intensive care by Covid patients, set at 10%, reaching 11%, after the increase of one percentage point recorded yesterday.The saturation of the wards does not depend only on the absolute number of hospitalized, but also on the capacity therefore on a relatively low number of beds in intensive care, such as the one available in Sardinia, a new entrance was enough to overcome the threshold (in total the patients in intensive care, yesterday, were 22 in total) . INTENSIVE CARE, NATIONAL AVERAGE GROWS (+ 1%) As regards the other regions, Sicily stands immediately after Sardinia with 9%, a figure that has been stable for 4 days. Following Lazio stable at 7%, Tuscany at 6%, Liguria and Puglia at 5%. The employment rate, by Covid patients, in intensive care units in Italy rises. The national average stands at 5% with an increase of 1%, reaching 4% after 7 days. As regards the occupancy rate of departments not in the critical area, it remains stable for three days at 6%.
