Strong thunderstorms in the north since Monday, yellow alert in 4 regions

A large depression area on Northern Europe, pushing towards lower latitudes, will bring its effects on the northern Italian regions, determining conditions of marked atmospheric instability, especially close to the Alpine sectors. On the basis of available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection, in agreement with the regions involved, which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned, has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting on the various areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department’s website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it). From the early hours of tomorrow, Monday, August 16, the notice foresees scattered rainfall, also of a downpour or thunderstorm, on Piedmont and Lombardy, extending to Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, especially on the respective northern sectors. The phenomena will be accompanied by strong showers, local hailstorms, frequent electrical activity and strong gusts of wind.On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, a yellow alert for thunderstorm risk on the Veneto was assessed for tomorrow, Monday 16 August , on Friuli Venezia Giulia and a large part of Lombardy and Piedmont. The meteorological and critical situation forecast for Italy is updated daily on the basis of new forecasts and the evolution of phenomena, and is available on the website of the Department of Civil Protection (www.protezionecivile.gov.it), together with the general rules of behavior to be taken in case of bad weather. The information on the regional alert levels, on the specific criticalities that could affect the individual territories and on the prevention actions adopted are managed by the territorial civil protection structures, in contact with which the Department will monitor the evolution of the situation.
