Damiano Tommasi, the new mayor of Verona, has signed an ordinance that limits the use of drinking water for domestic purposes, for personal cleaning and hygiene. Violations are punished with fines of up to 500 euros. The provision is also an invitation to adopt behaviors and habits useful for reducing waste, making each citizen responsible for the importance of individual actions to try to stem the problem. Until 31 August it will therefore be forbidden to use drinking water from a water source for the irrigation of vegetable gardens, gardens and sports fields, for washing cars, except for authorized facilities, for filling swimming pools and for any other activity that is not strictly necessary for the purposes of human needs. Any use for the purposes described above and prohibited, although not recommended, can only take place from 9 pm to 6 am. For offenders, penalties of up to 500 euros are envisaged. a note, also includes a series of recommendations on the conscious use of water even in daily activities at home, reducing waste. Among the main ones: “Always turn off the tap when not needed; prefer a shower to a bath in the tub, rather than allowing to reduce consumption by 75%; install the jet breaker on the taps and a double button box on the toilet to regulate the water load of the toilet; prefer the dishwasher washing by hand, always using it with a full load. Avoiding rinsing dishes under the tap before putting them in the dishwasher saves 38 liters of water each time.
