Francesco Campolo will represent Raizes Teatro at the Action Week organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Youth sector: it will be staged with “Ave Maria”. Action Week, the symbolic event of the Democracy Here Campaign, Democracy Now, will take place from today, June 27, to July 2 in Strasbourg. The event, organized under the patronage of the Irish Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, will bring together hundreds of professionals from all over the Euro-Mediterranean area and from all member countries of the Council of Europe, an international body responsible for the protection and dissemination of civil rights. Action Week is an event dedicated to the most original and innovative ways of disseminating, protecting and teaching civil rights with particular attention to democratic principles and multicultural integration, subjects in which Raizes Teatro is a leader in Europe and in the world. Representing the Palermo company is Francesco Campolo, 26, a citizen of Ustica who trained in performingarts at the international amphibious center in Bologna. Campolo will present “Ave Maria”, a performance inspired by the events that took place in Castelbuono during 2021, when it was discovered that a group of people with disabilities were subjected to degrading and inhumane treatment by the owners of a reception and assistance center. “Ave Maria” has already been staged at the Venice School for Human Rights Defenders at the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice on June 18th. to bring to their attention the approach chosen by Raizes, who, over the last few years, has started an integration process, allowing several young people living in Palermo to present performances in different European cities, creatively developing themes related to the protection of rights and brotherhood and cooperation. “The Action Week, as well as being a reason for personal pride, is a great opportunity for meeting and discussion in an international and multicultural venue, the crossroads of a world that can no longer ignore the international dimension in the arts and education – says Campolo -. It will also be a further step towards the development of our way of working, which will soon lead us to the establishment of a Center for the Arts and Human Rights and to our next project, ‘Roots in the Mediterranean’, a large research laboratory throughout the Mediterranean, European, Middle Eastern and North African area “. Raizes, therefore, jumped at the opportunity, also in this case, to be part of a global world for the protection and promotion of rights, connecting a local reality like Palermo to Higher institutions, confirming itself as the European leader in artistic production and in the dissemination of civil and fundamental rights. “We continue our work of building new educational and artistic creation methods – says Alessandro Ienzi, founder of Raizes – and we give our contribution to the formation of a new global generation that makes less and less reference to divisions and borders and opens up to the formation of a global civilization, which has more and more the form of all humanity, through theater and art “.
