Maturity, linguist denounces: “Clamorous error in the trace on Pascoli”

The track on Pascoli, one of the seven tracks proposed by the ministry for the test of Italian at maturity “presents a sensational error, about which I am receiving hundreds of reports of people who are confused, embarrassed, doubtful about the analysis to be carried out: the error it is serious and has sent the candidates into a tailspin. ” The alarm was raised at Adnkronos by the well-known linguist and literary critic Massimo Arcangeli, who denounced an error in the Italian trace concerning a well-known Pascolian poem (‘La via ferrata’) included in the ‘Myricae’, the first poetic collection published by Giovanni Pascoli. “At point three of the trace – Arcangeli goes out – we speak of a ‘common lexical element’ that does not exist, does not exist. The trace in fact asks: What lexical element is present in each verse of the poem? Here, therefore, we mean a single expression , a single word. Well: this single expression doesn’t exist. ” To explain better, Arcangeli underlines: “By common lexical element we mean a word, or an expression, which appears identical in each of the three stanzas. In the poem, however, there is no word that answers the purpose, not even an article, a preposition or conjunction “. On the net, Arcangeli denounces, “the case has exploded, there are many protests. Not only from students, but also from professors”. Therefore, the linguist’s appeal – who has recently collected in a dossier the dozens of incorrect questions in the applications for the competition to become professors, signed by intellectuals including Cacciari and Serianni – is therefore clear: “Take this into account in the evaluation, because I don’t know how the candidates were able to answer, there are no holds apart from those based on intuition “.
