Today marks the 76th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic and the event is celebrated in Rome and in many other cities in the country. A date that marks a fundamental step: on 2 and 3 June 1946 the Italians were called to vote to decide which form of government, between monarchy and republic, they wanted after the fall of fascism and the end of the Second World War.
