On May 23, 2022, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Judge Giovanni Falcone, the Day of Legality is celebrated. The Guarantor for childhood and adolescence of the Lazio Region has been committed for some time on the legality front and, in the month of May, is holding many meetings, seminars and conferences to promote actions regarding awareness and education to legality. “In the many meetings that we carry out – said Dr. Monica Sansoni (Guarantor for children and adolescents of the Lazio Region) – we try to explain to the children the importance of legality and, above all, the risks of certain actions which are far from what the law requires. Often, unfortunately, adolescents do not have the perception and knowledge of what they are doing, then falling into a whirlwind of legal proceedings that overwhelm them “. “As certified by the data, which see more than 300 minors detained in Italy, often – continued Dr. Sansoni – there is no perception, in young people, of a crime committed. Over 1,500 boys and girls under the age of 18 years old are welcomed in communities that guarantee a different response from prison and over three thousand, on the other hand, benefit from the “trial” with which the judge stops the process and establishes a period in which the minor must behave well and engage in voluntary activities “.” Juvenile crimes – concluded the Guarantor for childhood and adolescence of the Lazio Region – are often on the lips of many, but there are still too few projects to safeguard our children. In theory, as I always say, must follow the practice and in the Lazio Region we are actively working to make minors understand the importance of legality. It is a tiring job, carried out also with the help of the President of the Regional Council Marco Vince nzi, but that gives great satisfaction. Legality is the fundamental basis of civil coexistence and it is essential to know it thoroughly. Precisely for this reason, the first anti-violence center for minors in the Lazio Region was established, which welcomes minors who are victims of crimes, but also the perpetrators, in order to support families who suddenly find themselves having to face very painful paths “.
