The phenomenon was discovered by the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Ascoli Piceno, which acquired significant evidence to denounce some people involved in the resale of used cars with artfully reduced mileage, so as to increase their commercial value and make them more attractive to the eyes. of unsuspecting buyers. The investigative activity of the judicial police carried out by the Ascoli Piceno Group, coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, led to the complaint for fraud and commercial fraud of three Romanian citizens, linked by family ties, owners, in the Piceno area, of a resale of used cars which, methodically, tampered with the “odometer” reducing the actual distances indicated by the instrument. At best, cars were “rejuvenated” by a few tens of thousands of kilometers, even half of the road traveled, even, for the worst cases, by over 200,000 km, transforming real scrap metal, dangerous for the safety of passengers and for the road traffic itself, in vehicles with an apparently almost new engine. Prepared in this way, they were advertised through advertisements on specialized websites, from which they received a better evaluation, guaranteed by the low mileage of the vehicle, managing to obtain an undue economic advantage from the sale, to the detriment of scammed customers.
