Covid today Italy, report: incidence decreasing, Rt stable

Covid in Italy, the incidence decreases while the Rt index remains substantially stable. Employment in intensive care units also fell slightly while in the medical area it dropped to 14.5%. No high-risk autonomous region or province. These are the main data that emerge from the monitoring of the control room, disseminated by the Higher Institute of Health (Iss). DOWN THE INCIDENCE – The incidence of Covid-19 at the national level is down this week. According to the main monitoring data, it stands at 559 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants (in the period 29 April – 5 May), compared to 699 per 100,000 in the previous week (22-28 April). STABLE RT – The Rt transmissibility index for Covid-19 decreased in Italy: in the period from 13 to 26 April, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 0.96 (range 0.85-1.07 ), substantially stable compared to the previous week. As regards the hospital RT, the transmissibility index based on cases with hospitalization is below the epidemic threshold and substantially stable compared to the previous week: it is at 0.91 (0 , 88-0.94) as of April 26 against the value of 0.93 (0.90-0.96) recorded on April 19. SLIGHT DECREASE IN INTENSIVE THERAPIES – The occupation by Covid-19 patients of ordinary wards and intensive care units falls in Italy this week. According to the monitoring data, the employment rate in the resuscitation wards recorded a slight decrease, falling to 3.7% (survey by the Ministry of Health as of May 5) compared to 3.8% recorded on April 28), while the employment in medical areas drops to 14.5% (Ministry of Health survey as of May 5) compared to 15.6% recorded on April 28. NO HIGH RISK REGION – No Autonomous Region / Province in Italy is classified at high risk for Covid, there are three classified as moderate risk, while the remaining Regions / Pa are classified as low risk. Furthermore, 9 Regions / Pa report at least one single resilience alert, while only 1 reports multiple alerts. STABLE CASES DETECTED BY TRACKING – In Italy the percentage of Covid cases detected through the tracing of positive contacts is stable: 12% this week, the same percentage detected in the previous one, according to the main data of the control room monitoring. The percentage of Covid cases detected through the onset of symptoms also remains stable (42%, versus 42%), as well as the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities (46% versus 47%).
