Masks indoors on May 1st, where it remains mandatory: supermarkets, buses, offices

Masks indoors, from 1 May the obligation is off but not everywhere. The rules and anti-covid measures valid until June 15 will change from tomorrow. Masks will need to continue to be used on means of transport, at school and even in hospitals, but they can be dispensed with in many other places, including supermarkets and restaurants. The recommendation of the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, since “the numbers tell us that the pandemic is still ongoing and a prudent approach is needed, we must insist on the use of the mask on all occasions in which there is a risk of contagion”.

Means of transport – The rules don’t change here. It remains the obligation to wear the Ffp2 both in local public transport (bus, tram, metro) and long distance (trains, ferries, planes). Work – In public and private workplaces, the obligation to use masks has not been extended: they are only recommended. However, employers, in the private sector, if deemed appropriate, may decide to maintain the protocols in force which provide for the mandatory nature of these protective devices. With regard to public offices, the use of the Ffp2 masks is recommended, in particular, for staff in contact with the public without suitable protective barriers, for those in line at the canteen or in other common areas, for those who share the room with “fragile” staff, in the elevators and in cases where the spaces cannot exclude crowds. Theaters, cinemas, entertainment venues – No slack. Anyone wishing to go to one of these places will be required to have the Ffp2. The ordinance specifies that the obligation also applies to shows open to the public that take place indoors in concert halls, live music venues and other similar places. Sports – In this case, a distinction is made between events that take place indoors or outdoors. The new provision provides for the obligation to wear the mask (FFp2) only in the first case, but the protective device remains recommended in the second, especially in the case of gatherings. Bars and restaurants, shops and shopping centers, hairdressers – Here the mask will no longer be mandatory from May 1st. As well as at the barbershop, hairdresser, beautician and in public offices, banks, post offices, museums, discos. But as these are ‘public’ or ‘open to the public’ indoor places, use is recommended. School – Here the obligation remains until the end of the school year. Church – The presidency of the CEI in a letter to the Italian Bishops, from 1 May to 15 June next, recommends that the faithful continue to use the mask at mass. “The trend of infections – emphasizes the CEI – has been constant for a few weeks and this data leads to confirm the indications of the Presidency contained in the communication of last 25 March, however, pointing out that the use of masks remains, strictly speaking, recommended in all activities that involve the participation of people in indoor spaces such as celebrations and catechesis, while the use of respiratory protection devices of the Ffp2 type remains mandatory for events open to the public that take place indoors in premises similar to cinemas, concert halls and theatrical halls “.” It should be noted, among other things, that starting from 1 May 2022 the Green Pass is no longer necessary for activities organized by the Parishes. Likewise – writes the presidency of the CEI – the Green Pass is not necessary for access to the workplaces of workers and collaborating volunteers “. Healthcare facilities – In this case, the obligation applies to everyone – workers, users and visitors – but we speak generically of protective devices. The measure does not only concern hospitals but also social-health and social-assistance structures, including hospitality and long-term care, assisted health residences (Rsa), hospices, rehabilitation structures, residential structures for the elderly, including non self-sufficient
