Burioni and the no vax “closed at home like mice”: “I wouldn’t rewrite it”

“Certainly I wouldn’t rewrite that tweet, because someone felt offended.” Roberto Burioni thus returns to the post on Twitter a few days ago in which, after the introduction of the mandatory green pass in Italy, he says: “I propose a collection to pay the no-vax subscriptions to Netflix for when, from 5 August, they will be under house arrest locked in the house like mice “. The virologist’s words have raised a lot of controversy, not only among his followers but also on a political level. Days later, the hashtag ‘sorci’ is still trending on Twitter and the Codacons has announced that it wants to present a complaint to the Order of Doctors against the scientist asking for his radiation. On social media there is no shortage of insults and offenses against the professor of Virology at San Raffaele in Milan. Burioni, consulted on the case by the ‘Corriere della Sera’, specifies: “Mine was an ironic tweet, but I forgot that Twitter is not the place of irony (and self-irony). My fault anyway”. Yet always with irony he responds to the two wings of the parliamentary curve that attacked him the hardest, Giorgia Meloni of Fratelli d’Italia and Marco Rizzo, secretary of the Communist Party. At the first, which speaks of “shameful” words, Burioni recalls that compulsory vaccinations began many years ago, in 1939, without any protest. And responding to Rizzo, who accuses him of “arrogance and class hatred”, he adds: “The neo-fascists hate me, but the veteran communists also hate me: I really think I’m right”. The virologist then concludes with a bitter reflection: “But that one ends up covered with insults because he says that you have to get vaccinated is stuff you would not believe in 2021, after what we have been through”.
