‘Ndrangheta, drug trafficking in the Reggio area: 19 arrests

Blitz of the carabinieri at the first light of dawn in Scilla, Sinopoli, Sant’Eufemia d’Aspromonte (Reggio Calabria) and in the provinces of Messina, Milan, Rome and Terni. At the conclusion of investigations coordinated by the Reggio Calabria Public Prosecutor’s Office – District Anti-Mafia Directorate, as part of the operation called “Lampetra”, they implemented a personal precautionary measure against 19 people (15 in prison and 4 at home), issued by the Tribinale – GIP section of the Calabrian capital, held responsible – in particular – for mafia-type associations, an association aimed at the production and trafficking of drugs, illegal possession of weapons and attempted murder. The restrictive measure carried out by the Carabinieri of the Reggio Calabria operational department and by the Compagnia di Villa San Giovanni, is the result of an investigation launched in 2019 and concluded in the first months of 2021, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor of Reggio Calabria – District Directorate Antimafia, directed by the Attorney Giovanni Bombardieri and conducted by the Deputy Attorneys DDA Walter Ignazitto and Paola D’Ambrosio. The main focus of the investigations was aimed at clarifying the rooted and current operation of the Nasone-Gaietti clan, a fully organic mafia structure in the unitary ‘Ndrangheta and operating in the territory of Scilla and in the surrounding areas. The details will be announced during a press conference to be held at 10.00 (in presence and remote) by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Reggio Calabria.
