Delta variant of the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus found in 57.1% of the samples analyzed in Lazio. This is one of the data that emerges from the data analysis of the regional survey on Sars-CoV-2 variants launched today by the Regional Service for the surveillance and control of infectious diseases, unit of the Department of Epidemiology and Diagnostics of the Spallanzani Institute in Rome. . According to the analysis, the Alpha variant was found in 57 samples (23.9%), the Gamma variant in 45 (18.9%) and the Delta variant in 136 samples (57.1%). The survey involved 238 samples analyzed between June 28 and July 10, 2021, which had a sufficiently high viral load to allow characterization of the variants. These data, explained by Spallanzani, “do not differ from what was expected on the basis of previous data and national data”. And, it is further specified, “it should be noted that in the period considered there was only a modest increase in the diagnosis of Covid-19 in the region, and to date there are no signs of an increase in the care burden of hospitals and in detail of intensive care services “. The investigation is part of a surveillance plan decided by the Lazio Region which has set up a network of ad hoc laboratories coordinated by the Spallanzani Virology Laboratory. The tests were performed, as well as by the Spallanzani laboratory, by the laboratories of the Ifo and the Zooprophylactic Institute of Lazio.
