Desaparecidos, the only defendant arrested in Italy

Jorge Nestor Troccoli, the Uruguayan definitively sentenced to life imprisonment, was arrested and taken to the barracks along with thirteen other former senior officers, exponents of military juntas and the security services of South American countries, in power between the years’ 70s and 80s, linked to the so-called ‘Condor plan’. The judges of the first criminal section of the Supreme Court issued the sentence yesterday on the case of the Desaparecidos, some of Italian origin, kidnapped and killed in South America during the years of military dictatorships. According to Adnkronos, this morning Troccoli, who resided in Battipaglia, was arrested by the Carabinieri del Ros, led by General Pasquale Angelosanto, who carried out the imprisonment order issued by the public prosecutor at the Court of Appeal of Rome under the coordination of the prosecutor Antonio Mura and the deputy attorneys general Roberto Cavallone and Francesco Mollace. “The execution of the imprisonment is the epilogue that does further justice to the thousands of victims who gave their lives for the conquest of freedoms in South America. The trials celebrated in Italy are the mirror of a justice that does not forget the victims”. The Deputy Attorney General of Rome Francesco Mollace told the Adnkronos after his arrest.Mollace, as Deputy Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Rome, followed the second degree trial on the disappeared some of Italian origin, kidnapped and killed in South America in the years of military dictatorships which led to 24 life sentences.
