Terrorism, 40-year-old escaped to France tracked down in Terracina

The State Police tracked down a forty-year-old Tunisian citizen residing in France in an apartment in Terracina (Lt), who escaped from a psychiatric center in Bassens (FR) on 29 May and entered Italian territory a few days later. The Tunisian, wanted in the Schengen area, is being investigated in that country for condoning terrorism and aggravated threats, as well as for crimes against the person and in the field of drugs. The foreigner, among other things, had also praised the work of Mohamed Merah, the author of the Toulouse and Montauban attacks in 2012 in which numerous people were killed and was indicated by the French authorities as a dangerous subject. Its identification led to the outcome of a complex investigative activity conducted by the Digos of the Latina Police Headquarters and by specialized staff of the Service for the Fight against Extremism and External Terrorism of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police / Ucigos, which began last May after traces of it had been found passing through the railway stations of Genoa, Rome and Naples. On July 7, the International Operations Room of the Service for International Police Cooperation (SCIP), active 24/7 in connections with foreign police structures, reported in real time that the foreigner had sent a series of emails to the Inspectorate General of Police National transalpine containing threats to the “French and their institutions” also claiming to want “to end their lives by killing people. Immediate technical investigations made it possible to circumscribe the area from which the man had sent the threat e-mails, allowing the investigative team of the Digos of Latina and of the Dcpp / Ucigos to identify his hiding place in a few hours. The subject was then taken safely to the International Police Cooperation Center of Modane (FR) and delivered to the transalpine authorities following a readmission procedure immediately activated between the Central Directorate of Immigration and Border Police and the French police.
