Still drought in the North, but the rain returns to Italy: the weather

107 days without significant rains in the North and no forecast of showers during this weekend in the North, but only some rain in the South and on part of the Center. Meanwhile, over much of Europe, flat calm persists with the super anticyclone of Nordic or Norse origin. Without the rain, a distant mirage, the new data are dramatic: -92% of rains on the Po Basin in March, minimum flow since 1972 in some sections of the Po Valley, other disturbing data from the Adige River, from the hydrographic network of Tuscany and the Marche; also in Umbria it is estimated a 70% reduction in rainfall in the season just ended, the level of Lake Bracciano in Lazio drops more and more, like that of all the northern lakes. Important problems for agriculture, hydroelectric power generation and, if this continues, also for the water supply, as happened during the extreme drought of 2017. To date we have officially risen to second place as the driest period since 1957, if it did not rain until 24 April the 1999-2000 record would be broken. But the weather patterns seem to give hope for the coming week: the rain mirage in the North could turn into reality. From Wednesday 30 March and up to 1 April, in fact, 2-3 consecutive days of rain could arrive and with the return of snow in the mountains at 1500 meters. A ‘copy-paste’ of the forecasts for the weekends of March 12-13 and March 19-20: rains will arrive again in Sardinia in a subsequent move towards the South. The only difference, compared to the previous weekends, we will feel it on our skin , with temperatures that will be much milder.
