32 channels and pirate sites seized, stop reading newspapers for 500 thousand users

There are 32 Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter channels and websites seized by the financiers of the Special Goods and Services Unit during an operation to combat online editorial piracy. The investigations began in December following the collaboration established by the special department of yellow flames with Fieg – Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers, which made its experts available for the verification, together with the publishers of the newspapers concerned, of the social channels. and the sites identified by the financiers. Once the analysis of the contents aimed at circumscribing illegal publications was completed, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rome was informed, which opened a file and made a request for seizure to the Judge for preliminary investigations. The provision of the Judicial Authority was therefore notified to interested managers and providers and the illegal dissemination of daily, weekly, monthly and specialized magazines was interrupted; over 500,000 latch readers are left with blank screens. Editorial piracy steals resources from publishing houses and damages the sale of digital products, whose methods of distribution allow reaching a large number of users with extremely limited costs. In addition to the risk of sanctions, readers who turn to illicit channels expose themselves to the real possibility of suffering the theft of their data through “pishing”. In fact, as a counterpart to the free reading, some channels display links that redirect to commercial offers at particularly advantageous prices or to register for free digital services. By using these links, the user ends up putting their personal and financial data in the hands of criminals or activating unsolicited paid services.
