A ship of the Guardia di Finanza sinks after a “sudden” fire broke out in the engine room. The fire broke out on the G94 “Cappelletti”, a 27-meter coastguard supplied to the Crotone Naval Operations Section, which was then sunk in the waters of Calabria. Despite the crew’s prompt intervention, it was not possible to contain the fire and the financiers on board, after the vain attempts to contain the flames, abandoned the unit and found shelter on the rescue vehicles provided. The alarm, reports the Guardia di Finanza of the Vibo Valentia Aeronavale Operational Department, was launched immediately and naval units of the Guardia di Finanza and the Port Authority intervened on the spot to provide relief and circumscribe the area, so as to contain every possible risk to maritime traffic. On site there are also specialized units of firefighters and anti-pollution bodies to limit and eliminate any negative consequences from the environmental point of view.
