Djokovic without vaccine in Rome? What do Galli, Bassetti, Gismondo say

Novak Djokovic at the Foro Italico without vaccine? No. The presence of the Serb at the Internazionali d’Italia, scheduled in Rome in May, is “unacceptable” because the Serbian tennis player – who said no to the covid vaccine – represents “a bad example”. From Massimo Galli to Fabrizio Pregliasco, passing through Maria Rita Gismondo and Matteo Bassetti, the covid experts in Italy say no to Nole’s participation in the tournament in Rome. Djokovic, as highlighted by the offices of the Undersecretary for Sport, Valentina Vezzalim can play at the Foro Italico because “the current rules do not provide for the practice of individual, non-contact and outdoor sports, including tennis, the obligation of super Green Pass. There has never been talk of granting an exemption to tennis player Nole Djokovic, but it has only been reiterated what the current legislation is “.

After that, if you want to reconsider the possibility of giving exceptions to those that they have anti-Covid antibodies acquired for any reason is another matter, but in principle, and until this is codified for everyone and not just for Mr. Djokovic, the public health rules must be respected “, says Galli, already Director of Infectious Diseases at the Sacco di Miliano hospital. “I believe that, beyond the Italian quibbles” for which the super green pass is required for indoor sports and for outdoor sports only if in team and in contact, ” we should have a single European rule on sport “, says Gismondo, director of the Laboratory of Clinical Microbiology, Virology and Bio-emergency Diagnostics at the Sacco hospital in Milan. “It seems to me really absurd – underlines the expert – the fact that he has not been vaccinated and that we give him the opportunity to play, while unvaccinated children cannot go to the gym to carry out an activity that means physical health for them. and psychic. So I would absolutely deny him the Internationals “. On the anti-Covid vaccination, Djokovic” was one of the many bad teachers, a bad example “, especially considering the” responsibility “he has as a character so well known to the general public. That said, with regard to the possibility of his participation in the Rome International Tennis Championships, “if the law allows it, there is”, given that in Italy the Super Green pass is not required for individual outdoor sports, observes Pregliasco , lecturer at the State University of Milan. “Unfortunately there is no uniformity of rules, in a Europe that has not given homogeneous indications. It would have been an opportunity”, which instead was a missed opportunity also because “health is not a Community matter”.
“Djokovic in France cannot play as a vaccination passport is required for athletes, while in Italy he can. An unvaccinated boy cannot play football, but Djokovic can play tennis without using the locker room and showers. We are number 1 in the world. Great. Slam “, wrote Bassetti, director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the San Martino Polyclinic in Genoa, on Twitter.
