Covid Friuli, cases of South African and Colombian variant detected

May 10, 2021

In Friuli Venezia Giulia, the presence of South African and Colombian variants of the Coronavirus was detected. The news was given by the deputy governor with responsibility for Health of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Riccardo Riccardi. “According to what has recently been communicated to us – Riccardi explains – the case of the South African variant was identified in one of the members of a yacht from Croatia (now negative) with four crew members on board and a fifth person from South Africa . All had swabs with negative results 48 hours earlier. ” The crew made regular communication of entry into Italy to the Asugi Prevention Department but was not placed in quarantine because of traveling personnel. After reporting the positivity, the other people were quarantined aboard the boat in separate cabins. The end-of-quarantine swabs on April 24 gave another positive result, with evidence of negativization on May 5. There are no other close contacts. Today the swabs were performed again on the people who remained on board. As for the cases of the Colombian variant, following the evaluations made on the positive samples at the Asufc laboratory, a series of carriers of the variant itself were found. The variant seems to have an important transmissibility and the positive people, detected in the Udine area, were taken in charge by the Prevention Department for all the consequent measures.
