Delta variant, 11 infections in Naples

The Delta variant was identified on 11 positive swabs out of 35 analyzed in Naples on 22 and 23 June. The discovery is the result of a molecular study performed on viral RNA extracted from the biological material of Sars-Cov-2 positive subjects. The epidemiological investigation that follows from the Delta variant classification, as provided for by the ministerial circulars, has made it possible to identify the areas of residence and any family clusters. The reported cases are identified in the areas of Chiaia (2 cases), Montecalvario (3 cases), Pianura (3 cases), San Ferdinando (1 case) and Soccavo (2 cases) with two family clusters already established. “In the meantime – underlines the Asl Napoli 1 Centro – sequencing continues for all swabs with a positive outcome and with it the commitment of the prevention department of the Asl Napoli 1 Centro to define every useful action to confine the spread of the infection as much as possible linked to this mutation of the Sars-Cov-2 virus. The methods used for sequencing are: RNA extraction, library generation, sequencing by Ngs (Next generation sequencing), phylogenetic classification and whole genome sequence analysis of the SARS-virus. Cov-2 with coverage greater than 99% “.
