The situation of the Ginostra landslide, part of the village on the island of Stromboli, worsened. “It risks falling into the sea at any moment”. This is the appeal launched by a group of inhabitants of Ginostra to the President of the Sicilian Region, Nello Musumeci, to the Prefect of Messina Cosima Di Stani, to the Head of Civil Protection and to other authorities. The citizens wrote a letter: “Following the landslide of November 23 last – they say – which touched some houses, the war memorial, the port area and the only access road to the village of Ginostra as already reported with our note dated 11/24/2021 and 1/20/2022 we report the following: On 1/25/2022 a team of rock climbers intervened to remove some boulders in the balance and the material that had deposited. it was carried out successfully and that it was right to do but this operation without an immediate immediate intervention of underlaying and securing further exposed and discovered the ridge creating the conditions for further and sudden collapses that could occur at any moment “. Citizens therefore warn: “The war memorial with its belvedere risks collapsing, a house risks collapsing, taking the main access road to the village with it and everything could fall on the port area where there is the only landing place. of the hamlet. A similar scenario that could occur at any moment risks the paralysis of the entire village and also poses a serious safety problem for people and things, not underestimating the fact that Ginostra is located under an active volcano “. “In the light of the foregoing and the evolution of the situation, urgent, urgent and immediate action is required to remove the danger to people and things and to make places safe through all the necessary structural interventions without which it will continue to exist. a state of maximum danger – they conclude – The partial prohibition of places by order of the mayor of Lipari, n.8 of 19/01/2022, with order of el Commander of the Port of Lipari, n.03 of 25/01/2022 and the intervention of removal of some unstable boulders by the rock climbers, on today’s date, certainly do not resolve the situation, albeit due acts. On the contrary, we reiterate that having moved some rocks without any contextual structural intervention, if on the one hand it served to remove situations of instability, on the other hand it worsened the situation by exposing the whole area even more. We appeal to the sensitivity of the President of the Sicilian Region, Nello Musumeci, who has always proved to be close to the island communities, to intervene vigorously with the various bodies to avoid an announced and dramatic epilogue for Ginostra and its inhabitants “.
