The 280 migrants recovered by the patrol boats of the Guardia di Finanza and the Port Authority from a boat sighted 24 miles from the coast of the island landed in Lampedusa. Most of them come from Egypt and Bangladesh. The crossing, however, had a tragic cost: no less than 7 deaths, all of whom died of hypothermia.
