Ostia, Cassation: Spada clan and mafia

Confirmed in Cassation the criminal association of the mafia type for the Spada clan. This is what the judges of the first criminal section of the Supreme Court decided in the maxi trial against the clan of the Roman coast, accepting the request of the deputy attorney general Luigi Birritteri. With the sentence pronounced this afternoon, the supreme judges also ordered a new Appeal trial for the double murder of two members of a rival clan, Giovanni Galleoni known as ‘Baficchio’ and Francesco Antonini known as ‘Sorcanera’, which took place on November 22, 2011 in the center of Ostia. The appeal process will concern Roberto Spada, already sentenced definitively to six years for the publication in Ostia to the journalist Daniele Piervincenzi, Ottavio Spada, aka Marco, and Carmine Spada. The appeals of the other defendants were rejected or declared inadmissible, substantially confirming the penalties imposed. The sentence came after the discussion was renewed this morning in the courtroom of the Cassation, which had already taken place on 10 December, following the replacement of a member of the college. The maxi trial was born from the investigation of the Dda of Rome, coordinated by magistrates Michele Prestipino with Ilaria Calò and Mario Palazzi, who had led to the “ Eclipse ” operation on 25 January 2018 with the arrests carried out by the carabinieri and by the agents of the mobile squad. On 12 January last year the judges of the First Court of Assizes of Appeal of Rome had confirmed the criminal association of a mafia type and the sentences for the 17 defendants for over 150 years in prison, among these, life imprisonment for Roberto Spada and for Ottavio Spada, known as Marco, while the sentence for Carmine Spada was reduced from life imprisonment to 17 years.
