INPS between Covid, pension reform and citizenship income 25.5 million insured workers. 1.27 million registered companies. 16 million pension recipients. These are some of the numbers of INPS, the National Institute for Social Security, which deals with the management of pensions and social security and welfare benefits of most of the employees and self-employed in the public and private sector. A sector that of social security which, like others of the Public Administration, is at a particularly delicate moment linked to the recovery and evolution of the country. Among the most recent changes of the INPS, the introduction in 2019 of the so-called “Quota 100”, a revolution for the Italian pension system which, among supporters and detractors, is however towards the sunset scheduled for the end of 2021. Only one year after Quota 100, the advent of Covid led to a series of socio-economic upheavals which, among other things, forced the economic system and companies to resort to a series of extraordinary measures also in the field of social security: reduced work, sick pay, layoffs. In this situation of extreme uncertainty and fluidity, at what point is social security in Italy today? Adnkronos and Expleo took stock of the situation of the INPS in recent years, also in comparison with the social security systems of other European countries, with particular reference to various specific areas: welfare benefits, layoffs, pensions.
