Delta variant, case in a foreign patient in Nuoro

Delta variant in Sardinia. The team of the Covid Laboratory and the Hematology Laboratory of the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro has in fact identified the Delta variant of the Coronavirus in a foreign woman hospitalized in infectious diseases. The suspicion, promptly reported by the doctors of the ward, was confirmed molecularly and simultaneously with sequencing of the S gene. The diagnosis, according to the Ats, took place in less than 15 hours from the patient’s admission to the emergency room. At the same time, the Hygiene and Public Health Service was immediately alerted, which proceeded to trace the woman’s contacts. So far, all swabs of people who have come into close contact with the patient have given a first negative result. The contacts that the woman may have had during the journey that led her to Sardinia are currently being traced. The island is confirmed as the second region, after Lazio, for the diffusion of the variant, according to what is also attested by the report of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.
