Covid, cases still on the rise in prisons: positive 344 inmates and 395 prison policemen

Covid cases in Italian prisons are still on the rise, with more consistent growth than in recent weeks. Positive inmates are 344 (including 17 new arrivals), out of a total of 53,843, while cases are 395 among the 36,939 prison police on duty. The data, updated last night, are contained in the weekly report published on the website of the Ministry of Justice. Last week the cases were 239 among the detainees, out of a population of 54,059 units, and 265 among the officers. Among the positive inmates, 339 are asymptomatic, 2 have symptoms and are managed within institutions and 3 are hospitalized. Among the policemen 387 are asymptomatic in home isolation, 7 are hospitalized in the barracks and one in hospital. Finally, thirty-four are the positives among the 4,021 staff of the prison administration, 32 in home isolation and 2 hospitalized, while last week they were 26. Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign continues. 92,544 doses of anti covid vaccine administered to prisoners, last week the total administration was 88,311 doses.
