AstraZeneca: “Vaccine effective against Delta variant”

The AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine “offers high levels of protection against the delta variant. This is what emerges from new Public Health England (Phe) data”. The AstraZeneca company underlines this in a note on its website. The data comes from the ‘real world’, i.e. in the field, and is being published. “Two doses of the anti-Covid vaccine are 92% effective against hospitalization due to the delta variant” and “there were no deaths among the vaccinated who became infected”. Furthermore, the AstraZeneca vaccine “also showed a high level of efficacy against the alpha variant (formerly the ‘Kent’ variant) with an 86% reduction in hospitalizations and no deaths reported”. According to Mene Pangalos, executive vice president, AstraZeneca’s BioPharmaceuticals R&D, “real-world data shows that our Covid vaccine provides a high level of protection against the delta variant that is currently concerned about its speed of transmission.” The analysis, carried out between April 12 and June 4, looked at hospital admissions in England, and included 14,019 cases of the delta variant, 166 of which were hospitalized. “The data show that the vaccine will continue to have a significant impact around the world as it continues to account for the vast majority of supplies to India and the Covax initiative,” concluded Pangalos.
