Omicron variant, Ilaria Capua: “There is good news”

“It’s good news, the virus doesn’t seem to cause more severe cases. The fact that the Omicron variant is more transmissible is related to the fact that it’s a different virus.” Professor Ilaria Capua, director of the UF One Health Center, guest of Lilli Gruber at Eight and a half thus answers the questions on the Omicron variant. The first data from the studies arrive to outline the picture of the epidemic. Pfizer, in particular, says the vaccine’s booster dose offers high protection against the variant. “The recall is the last piece of the wall we are building against this virus. Three doses of the vaccine give an excellent response and block the Omicron variant which, poor thing, has suffered a media pillory: there has been too much talk about it and badly”, says the scientist, pointing out that “the less we get vaccinated, the longer it will last”.
