Children subjected to physical violence and psychological harassment, deprived of water and food, sometimes stripped naked and locked in completely dark rooms. This is what happened in an illegal asylum set up by a Ghanaian husband and wife in an apartment in Castel Volturno (Caserta). The agents of the State Police of the Caserta Police Headquarters, delegated by the Prosecutor of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, carried out a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge of the Sammaritan Court who ordered house arrest for the two spouses, both 35 years old, Ghanaian and without a residence permit, seriously suspected of severe abuse in the family in competition. The investigations revealed the existence of the abusive asylum set up by the spouses in an apartment in Castel Volturno. A few months ago, the state police had carried out a raid on a property, finding the presence of 11 Nigerian minors “managed” by the two spouses on the custody of their respective parents who had instructed them to guarantee them board and lodging on an ongoing basis and upon payment of a kind of straight line. After the intervention of the Flying Squad, the children had been placed in some protected structures made available by the municipal social services. The continuation of the investigations made it possible to ascertain how the spouses had transformed the abusive asylum into a nightmare place for minors. In particular, it emerged that at least three of these, of Nigerian nationality, were subjected, for months, to serious physical violence and psychological harassment perpetrated by the two Ghanaians and consisted of deprivation of water and food, corporal punishment such as denudation and ‘internment in dark rooms without heating, beatings with the use of iron clubs and sticks, insertion of chilli in the eyes and between the buttocks of the victims, breaking of the nails. All this in order to impose on minors the respect of the “house rules”. The Prosecutor of Santa Maria Capua Vetere requested and obtained from the investigating judge the precautionary measure of house arrest against the two 35-year-olds, tracked down in an apartment in Destra Volturno.
