It will be called “U-10 Logos” and will have innovative classrooms, laboratories, student accommodation, a forest for teaching and research and even a bio-lake to host amphibians and insects at risk of extinction. The Milan-Bicocca University is thus expanding with a new building, which will rise between viale dell’Informazione, via Stella Bianca, via Sesto San Giovanni and via Fubini: the first stone was laid today, on the day the university celebrates the 23rd anniversary of the foundation. The Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, the Councilor for Education, University, Research, Innovation and Simplification of the Lombardy Region, Fabrizio Sala, and the director of Milan-Bicocca, Giovanna Iannantuoni attended the short ceremony at the construction site, where from the foundations have not been completed and today the construction of the structure begins. The building will rise on an area of 7,550 square meters and will be divided into three parts: the main body on viale dell’Informazione, the residential tower with 104 beds and the low body with gym, music room, study rooms and meeting rooms. . Delivery is scheduled for summer 2023 and the cost of the operation is approximately 70 million. Around the lower body of the U-10 the urban forest, almost two hectares of greenery connected to the North Park thanks to flower-filled islands and green spaces that are emerging in the university and in the neighborhood. Among the trees, two amphitheaters and research laboratories will open up to students a new way of training, also supported by furniture that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The urban forest – which will be a model of biodiversity with heliophilic and fruit trees, plants, aromatic herbs and a flower garden – will also be available to the citizens of the neighborhood. The pride of the project is the biolago (an artificial basin in which the water is purified with natural elements such as plants and essences, ed), which according to the researchers of the university will be able to host migratory birds, amphibians such as the green toad and endangered insects such as dragonflies. The green area is given in a thirty-year concession to the University of Milano-Bicocca by the Municipality of Milan. “Just a few decades ago tires were made here – explained the director of Milan-Bicocca, Giovanna Iannantuoni – while today a large urban park will be born together with this building, a symbol of the evolution of the city, an example of ecological transition that represents a step of renewal in a spirit of modernity; as a university we also take this opportunity to change the way of university teaching, which will be done partly outdoors, to allow children to study starting from experience “. “As you know, I worked for Pirelli for 19 years and I remember when there were only factories here and I returned home with the black collar of a white shirt – recalled the Mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala – today the University of Milan Bicocca is leading the change in this area and it has proved to be an excellent university, despite being still so young, but I am sure it will do even better than it has already done ”.
