Covid today Lombardy, gyms: “New lockdown would be catastrophe, 20% would close”

If in Italy a new lockdown were to take place, in the wake of the Austrian one, with the closure of clubs and sports activities, for the gyms sector “it would be a catastrophe”. This was said to Adnkronos by Marco Contardi, president of Arisa, the Lombard association of sports and physical wellness arts companies that adheres to the Milanese Confcommercio. “A new lockdown – admits Contardi – would create further problems, it would mean bringing the sector to its knees, I hope it won’t happen because it would mean crushing us”. Numbers in hand, after last year’s lockdown “luckily we recorded closures equal to 10% only in Milan, we feared worse numbers” explains Contardi. Yet with another block the situation would become unsustainable: “Very few would resist – he underlines – I think the sector could not bear it. A further 20% of gyms could close”. However, Contardi tries to be optimistic: “For now the scenario for Milan and Lombardy is positive, we do not think we will enter the yellow or orange zone, compared to other Regions we should be able to overcome this problem”.
