Influenza, 811 thousand cases: children under 5 are most affected

Cases of influenza are increasing in Italy, especially among children under 5 years of age. “The estimated cases of flu-like syndrome” in the Italian population “are about 246,000, for a total of about 811,000 cases since the start of surveillance”. This is indicated by the latest Influnet surveillance report of the Higher Institute of Health (Iss), referring to the week from 8 to 14 November, 45th of 2021. “The curve of similar syndromes continues to grow – reads the report – – influenza in Italy, with an incidence level of 4.2 cases per thousand assisted “. And “children under 5 years of age are most affected, with an incidence of 17.9 cases per thousand assisted”. However, the report highlights that “most of the reported cases of flu-like syndrome are attributable to other respiratory viruses other than influenza”. “Seven Regions (Valle d’Aosta, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Umbria, Campania, Basilicata, Calabria, Sardinia) have not yet activated the Influnet surveillance”, it is specified. “Among the Regions that have activated the surveillance, Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Lazio, Abruzzo, Puglia and Sicily record a level of incidence of flu-like syndromes above the basic threshold”.
