Saman Abbas, prosecutor: “We look for the girl’s body, we think she is dead”

Saman Abbas, the missing 18-year-old Pakistani woman, wanted to escape an arranged marriage. The quarrel with the parents to get the documents back, the video of the relatives in the farmhouse holding shovel and sack, the testimony of the brother, the research continues to clarify this thriller from Novellara in the lower Reggio area. Unfortunately, however, the young woman’s body is sought. The hypothesis that is making its way among investigators is that the Pakistani girl whose traces have been lost since April 30, is dead. “The research continues, also because, unfortunately, we believe that the girl is dead” says the attorney regent Isabella Chiesi. “They will soon start with the help of an electromagnetometer and will be carried out under the supervision of an engineer”. Any hopes of finding remains? “I think a month is a period that certainly allows you to find them”, he explains to ‘Reggiosera.it’. For now, he adds, searches through “international cooperation and letters rogatory” have not yet been done. “There are elements to continue to think that Saman’s uncle is in Europe, because there is a lot of collaboration from the European authorities. Switzerland, France, Spain and England know who they should be looking for.” When asked if the material perpetrator of the murder could have been only Saman’s uncle, Chiesi replies that “it is difficult to know, because we do not even know how she was killed”. The accusation, however, “is of premeditated murder”. In the videos, taken by the cameras, you can see the three family members, with tools, going to the back of the farm (Look). “Saman was accompanied to the front, but then we do not know what path she took – she specifies -. This does not mean that she has not gone elsewhere”. What are the next steps? Wait, hoping that they are in France, for the research of others and international cooperation. Finally, the arrival of the cousin who can arrive shortly “. The video In the frames, broadcast by the carabinieri and in the video (Watch the video) of last April 29, we see three men in dark clothes, one with a shovel, another with a bag and the third with another tool. According to the investigative hypothesis, the images show Saman’s uncle and two cousins, while they are going to dig the grave where they can then hide the young woman’s body. international institute at the Ministry of the Interior in contact with the Belgian police, it was not found that Saman, is in Belgium as declared by his father. One of the girl’s acquaintances in the country reported that he had not seen her there for a very long time. moschea di Milano “The first thought, as an Imam and an Italian Muslim, is the prayer for the health and life of this girl who, we hope, is still alive, as well as the desire to sensitize her relatives to rediscover the true p riority, which is the life of their daughter and granddaughter, ”Yahya Pallavicini, Imam in the Al-Wahid mosque in Milan and president of the Coreis-Italian Islamic religious community, told Adnkronos. “Because the inability to understand and know the West and modernity, as well as a conservative defense of misinterpreted habits and customs, are elements that put together can create an explosive cocktail”. “Without a doubt – explains Pallavicini – the fact proves that there is a distance between modernity and tradition; there is a cultural, psychological and family challenge between East and West and between tradition and modernity “. And” this is important to clarify because we must not confuse cultural identities with religious interpretations “. Moreover, he stresses,” arranged marriage is not it is nowhere prescribed and everything that is contrary is forbidden and punished “. In any case” there is no way that parents can mistreat or kill their children, male or female. There is no religion or doctrine that can ever prescribe such a thing. “What instead” all religions prescribe are the health, respect and dignity of parents and children. It is the love of life “. So” let us try not to confuse tribalism with cultural identity, nor apologetic or pseudo-religious formalism with religion itself. Whatever religion it is. “It is” a universal discourse “. In” Southern Europe, as happened in Southern Italy with honor killings, it is still a matter of phenomena that are now obsolete; as for us, as religious leaders, we must strongly affirm that this practice does not exist and there are no solutions other than to encourage love and respect for young people in their new challenges. Islam and Pakistan have nothing to do with it, we must rather rediscover the natural instinct for good and for life. Which is sacred, for all religions. Even for those who do not believe. “Fortunately, Pallavicini affirms,” the numbers are relative “, even if” although few, they are still unpleasant “. As for the causes,” they are above all psychological: the inability to understand and know the West and modernity, in addition to a conservative defense of misinterpreted habits and customs of their national or religious or cultural roots, are elements that put together make an explosive cocktail “. That is,” I don’t know my identity, I’m afraid of identity of the country where I am and of not knowing how to manage my children who grow up here and, on this basis, absurd and dangerous solutions are taken. “It is also important to underline, Pallavicini warns, that the question must be resolved with the laws of Italian legal system: “Do not take out sentences of Sharia, Fatwe or Islamic courts. We don’t need to resolve a cultural ghetto with a legal ghetto. The common sense of true religion and the legal order of the Western state suffice. Otherwise there will always be the risk that a solution will be found ‘Islamically’ or ‘Pakistani’ or ‘Christianly’. What we have to do – he concludes – is to find a solution with the measures that exist and above all to hope that that girl is alive and well “.
