Human remains found in a cave on the slopes of Etna

Human remains were found in a difficult-to-access lava cave on the slopes of Etna. The discovery took place during the daily training activities conducted by the soldiers of the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza of Nicolosi (in Catania). The discovery, during one of the frequent exercises in the territory of Zafferana Etnea, took place thanks to the nose of the search and rescue dog Halma, a German shepherd, who barked towards a cave in the area of ​​operations, persistently attracting the attention of its handler. The operating soldiers entered, not without difficulty, to the bottom of the ravine where they found human remains, whose poor conditions immediately made it clear that the death dates back to a long time ago. the necessary findings were then carried out by the Scientific Investigations Section of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Catania and the subsequent transport of the remains to the Cannizzaro Hospital morgue. The Fiamme Gialle are now at work to give a name and a face to the man who died at the bottom of that cave probably between the end of the 70s and the 90s, probably in autumn or winter. The first scientific investigations and the examination of the place of discovery suggest that it is a man of at least 50 years of age, about 170 cm tall, with congenital malformations of the nose and mouth. From the crystallized image presented to the Sagf military of the Provincial Command of Catania, it seems that the man voluntarily entered the ravine, otherwise difficult to access, and that he died of non-violent causes: he was wearing long dark trousers, a light-colored striped shirt, a light wool sweater, a black tie, a dark green nylon cape, a wool hat with pompom and boots. Also find some metal coins of the old coinage. The man wore an Omega watch with a canvas strap on his wrist and had a comb with case. The investigative activities continue with the Sagf operators who, in addition to the rescue, also have the task of documenting what happened in the places where accidents sometimes fatal and carrying out investigations delegated by the Judicial Authority.
