“In the absence of a lockdown, delaying the second dose” of Coronavirus mRna vaccines “is a big gamble. For those who are only partially protected and for the community.” This is the warning launched by Antonella Viola, an immunologist at the University of Padua, via social media. “We hope well”, the expert hopes in a tweet, expressing doubts about the pitfalls that could accompany the choice, now also available in Italy, to lengthen the interval between the first and second dose of mRna vaccines (from 21 to 28 days respectively for Pfizer and Moderna at 42) to maximize the number of people who can be covered with the first injection as much as possible.
