Bad weather, orange alert on Sicily and Sardinia

Orange alert tomorrow on Sicily and part of Sardinia due to bad weather. The depression vortex positioned between the western Mediterranean Sea and North Africa determines the persistence of a flow of humid and unstable south-eastern currents towards our Peninsula. This condition leads to a markedly unstable weather with expected rainfall in the central-southern regions, with a stormy nature especially on the islands. Based on the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved – which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned – has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting on the various areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department’s website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it). From today afternoon, Tuesday 9 November, the notice foresees widespread rainfall, also of a downpour or thunderstorm, on Sardinia, especially in the southern and eastern sectors and on Sicily, always in the southern and eastern sectors. These phenomena will be accompanied by strong showers, frequent electrical activity and strong gusts of wind. On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, an orange alert on Sicily and part of Sardinia was assessed for tomorrow, Wednesday 10 November. A yellow alert was also assessed on the remaining sectors of Sardinia and on the Ionian slopes and on the southern Tyrrhenian side of Calabria.
