Alfasigma completes the acquisition of the Italian Sofar

Alfasigma Spa has completed the acquisition of the Italian pharmaceutical company Sofar Spa, thus officially starting the integration process of the two companies. The operation, launched last August, was successfully completed – informs a note – in full compliance with the deadlines set for October 2022. Alfasigma thus consolidates its leadership in the gastrointestinal area and the research focus on the microbiota, aiming at expand its international presence. Alfasigma – recalls the company – is one of the leading multinational pharmaceutical companies, with Italian capital, with a consolidated turnover that recorded over 1 billion euros in 2021. It has research centers in Bologna and Pomezia, three production plants in Italy and two all abroad, about 3 thousand employees, a direct presence in 17 markets and an indirect presence in about 70 countries. Sofar, an Italian pharmaceutical company, is active in the research, production and marketing of drugs, medical devices and food supplements with a long tradition and well known by specialists and patients. It has a turnover of over 100 million, 150 references sold in more than 10 therapeutic areas and 300 employees worldwide. In particular, Sofar has developed a center of excellence for microbiota research within the Kilometro Rosso Science and Technology Park in Bergamo, while Alfasigma is developing a pipeline of products focused on the gastrointestinal area.
