Flash mob ‘antisisfiga’ Consulcesi at the Sapienza University of Rome, ‘You enter medicine because it is right’

An original gesture, an ‘anti-jinx’ flash mob, this morning at the Sapienza University of Rome, on the occasion of the start of the admission tests to the Faculty of Medicine. It was created by Consulcesi, with the aim of raising awareness and drawing attention to the need to review the selection process for future doctors. After trying with superheroes in white coats and with the iconic characters of ‘The house of paper’, the legal reference for thousands of medical students has focused on the flash mob “Enter medicine because it’s right!”, But also on t -shirt and other ‘superstitious’ gadgets to exorcise the cabal which today represents the predominant factor of the test result. After all – reads a Consulcesi note – in a recent online survey ‘68% of aspiring doctors are superstitious and 41% rely on t-shirts and amulets to bring luck even for the test’. “We find it unacceptable that it is luck that determines the fate of these young students and, consequently, the fate of our precious National Health Service”, comments Massimo Tortorella, president of Consulcesi. “We know that from next year there will be reform, but at the moment on our portal numerochiuso.info the candidates continue to ask us for support, they tell us that they are confused, that they have no guarantees on what will happen. However, they can be certain – Tortorella reassures – that we will be at their side: we will monitor the correct conduct of the tests and, as has happened so many times in recent years, through appeals, we will allow unjust exclusions to be healed where irregularities are recorded and we will ensure that merit be rewarded. ”The aspiring Italian doctors – reads the note – are well aware that chance and luck play a decisive role (too much) in the selection methods to enter the medical faculties. It is therefore not surprising that, in the online survey recently conducted by Consulcesi, as many as 68% of students declare that they are superstitious and 41% even admit that on the day of the tests ‘they will wear a T-shirt or a lucky accessory’, while on the 19th, 5% will listen to a playlist or the song of the heart as a superstitious rite, 20% will repeat a propitiatory gesture and 19.5% will make a foil. In this morning’s flash mob, a young candidate arrives late and out of breath for the Medicine tests. In the few meters that separate him from the entrance to the university, everything happens to him: a nun runs over him on a bike, a clumsy cook, who passes by, spills salt on him and, in the meantime, a footballer with a jersey viola number 17 hinders him by dribbling, while he finds himself passing under a ladder carried by two workers. In short, in a few seconds, he has already understood that it will not be his lucky day.
