Italian clinical engineers in comparison with European institutions

A delegation of the Italian Association of Clinical Engineers (Aiic) met in Brussels with representatives of European institutions and MedTech Europe (the association that brings together manufacturers of healthcare technologies at a continental level) in a ‘two days’ defined by the AIIC board of directors “of genuine interest and frank exchange of experiences and evaluations. “” The meetings in Brussels allowed us to share at the highest level of representation some common reflections on European regulations 745/2017 and 746/2017 “, reports the president of the association, Umberto Nocco. “Both professionals, producers and European institutions are aware that we are facing an important and in some ways epochal transition for medical devices and in vitro devices – he stressed – because today we intend to offer the highest technological quality, combined with the highest degree of safety and traceability of the devices a great regulatory effort that clashes with a shortage of notified bodies, and with a certain slowness in the implementation of the Eudamed database, which will be the objective reference for the entire health technology sector in Europe ”, he observed. During the ‘two days’ – reports a note – the Aiic management, which also met the MEP Massimiliano Salini, was able to underline the punctuality with which the Italian clinical engineering professionals are following the opportunities and criticalities introduced by the two Regulations, in close harmony with national agencies and authorities. In the meeting with MedTech Europe, president Nocco with Alberto Lanzani and Leo Traldi, members of the Aiic board, had the opportunity to present an international overview of the XXII national conference (“Beyond the PNRR: towards a technological culture in support of health”) which will be held in Riccione in the period 12-15 June.
