Covid Italy, Rt and incidence rise: Delta variant is prevalent

Covid in Italy, Delta variant now prevalent in the country which records an Rt index rising to 1.26. It also accelerates the increase in incidence, but infections are still under control. 19 Regions at moderate risk and 2 at low risk, none of the Regions is above the critical threshold both in intensive care and in ordinary hospitalizations. Cases not associated with transmission chains are increasing. This is what emerges from the weekly monitoring of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità on the epidemiological trend of Covid-19, relating to the period 12-18 July. RTS INDEX It sketches the Rt index at national level, passing to 1.26, up compared to the previous week and exceeding the threshold of 1. The average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases refers to the period 30 June-13 July and in the Report – an increase in the transmissibility index based on cases with hospitalization is observed in a similar way (Rt 1.16 at 13/7/2021 compared to 0.97 the previous week). “The high proportion of young and asymptomatic subjects highlighted by the epidemiological data published by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità – highlights the Report – must be considered when reading these transmissibility estimates”.
