Virtuosity, energy and choreographic grandeur. ‘Don Quixote’ by Rudolf Nureyev, one of the flagships of the Scala company, finally returns to the stage three years after the last performances, for four performances, from 29 to 31 October, at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan. A splendid opportunity for an evening of great dance, in a fascinating Spain, in the warm colors of the installation by Raffaele Del Savio and Anna Anni, between dances of gypsies, fandango, matadores, windmills and the suspended whiteness of the Dryads garden. Ball director Manuel Legris, a profound connoisseur and great interpreter of Nureyev’s choreography, personally prepared four pairs of protagonists. Each of the performances will therefore be a special occasion to applaud the most beloved Scala stars once again and to witness the debut of artists who, winners of the recent competition, are now projected into a new position in the staff. The performances are opened by Nicoletta Manni and Timofej Andrijashenko, a couple of stars who triumphed in this ballet at La Scala and in the world, as well as Virna Toppi with Claudio Coviello and Martina Arduino, who will dance alongside the new principal dancer Nicola del Freo. For him a great debut in the role of Basilio. Debut also for Mattia Semperboni, neo soloist of the Company who during the performances of La Scala in the city has enthused in the excerpt from the third act and who will now for the first time interpret the ballet in its entirety. Alongside him, just entered the company, already a great test for the new soloist Alice Mariani, graduated from the Accademia Teatro alla Scala and with a long experience at the Semperoper Ballet in Dresden. Alongside the interpreters of Kitri and Basilio, there are numerous artists who will play again or some for the first time the many roles of this ballet such as Don Quixote (Giuseppe Conte), the faithful squire Sancho Panza (Matteo Gavazzi), the rich noble Gamache (Massimo Garon and Marco Messina) and Lorenzo (Daniele Lucchetti and Massimo Dalla Mora). The role of the Street Dancer will be played by Vittoria Valerio then Alessandra Vassallo, while the Torero Espada will be danced by Marco Agostino and Christian Fagetti. The Queen of the Dryads will be Maria Celeste Losa then Gaia AndreanĂ². Love will be played by Agnese Di Clemente and Camilla Cerulli, the Gypsy by Federico Fresi, Domenico Di Cristo and Rinaldo Venuti, the Maid of Honor by Alice Mariani then Caterina Bianchi and Gaia AndreanĂ², Kitri’s two friends will be Alessandra Vassallo with Caterina Bianchi , Vittoria Valerio with Agnese Di Clemente.
